Japan Day 16: Hakone

There’s a loop in Hakone that reminds me of the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. You go to each little village and do the thing they are famous for.

We started in our hotel where, at breakfast, our hosts taught Michael to use this kendama toy. There are world championships in doing tricks with it.

Lydia has Jim’s camera for the day. We took a bus to a cable car to a ropeway.

When you exit the ropeway you can instantly smell the sulfur and see the steam from these bubbling volcanic vents.
Ice cream and a kiss. A good start to the morning.
Then we took a pirate ship across the lake.
Ahoy Mateys!
For lunch we had these TEENY fish and chips
Our lunch place had a dog menu and there were a few well behaved dogs
The kids were in love
First boba (bubble tea) of the trip, but they have it at home a lot
This little town has famous cheesecake soft serve ice cream. Second ice cream of the day.

Dinner: duck ramen
The kids could eat karage (Japanese fried chicken) every meal. (The covered dish is rice) A driver from the restaurant picked us up and delivered us back to the inn. So nice not to have to figure the bus out and do the walking with the children.

Jim and I did the onsen again, making us relaxed and clean.
