Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Albania: Day 1

I love this changing art exhibit at Tom Bradley terminal LAX.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who, when you say, “I’m going to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan,” respond, “Why?”—and those who say, “How long do you get to stay?”

Uzbekistan has beautiful cities filled with buildings covered in turquoise and deep-blue mosaics. It has a rich history and boasts numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites. It’s inexpensive, the food is amazing, and there aren’t many tourists…yet.

I predict that in a few years, it will be as clogged with tourists as Japan. It’s only been open to tourists for a few years, and I have a feeling the secret won’t stay a secret for long.

So, while my main goal is to get Tirana, Albania for the 35th anniversary of our sister church there, we are taking a side trip to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the way.

On the plane there were people speaking English, Turkish, Greek, Russian, French, Spanish, German, Italian and more. Although English seems to be a universal way to communicate, there were very few Americans. We’re ready for fun adventures in a new part of the world!
